When talking to my CT about learning analytics in her practice I learned a lot about how the data she collects from the different sites they use like Study Sync and their IReady scores to see where the students are at within their grade levels or within their age range. She uses these scores to decide what the students need to work more on and to see which groups the students will be placed into. Looking at the scores from Study Sync she uses these scores to see the students' writing abilities and where they are within their abilities to comprehend readings that they are doing within the workbook. She uses this data to also look more at where the student's comprehension is of these reading and understanding abilities while in 8th grade.

Looking at how she uses IReady scores to see where students are and help them improve their reading skills and math skills which she does not look at as much. Her students can test out of IReady so she knows which students are at a higher level than others and the students get certain work to see where they are based on what grade. One student's grade level is at fourth grade while others have tested out all within my one class.

In addition to grading, she is also tracking certain students on outbursts within the classroom to let them know how many times they interrupt the class or do something that they are not supposed to be doing. She tracks certain ideas when I am teaching a small group lesson like how many times the students interact with me or how many times I ask questions to the students. Within this tracking, she also tracks how many times certain students interrupt me. I had one student interrupt me 55 times in a 15-minute lesson which she tracked because she wanted to see the behaviors of certain students because of their IEPs and what she was supposed to do for them.

  1. Wow; 55 interruptions in 15 minutes! What does your cooperating teacher do with this knowledge?
